Anyone know how I can get Norton 2006 out of my computer? My
subscription has expired and it won't let me install Norton 2007, I
can't remove it from add/remove programs and Symantec's removal tool on
thier website is a dead link. I'm not one to go into the registry
tampering with things and a computer shop wants $80 to do the job. I
want to use AVG, can I just turn off norton and leave it be?

Hi Grumpy:

You can ask a support technician at Symantec for assistance. There is no
charge.

I had the same issue a few years ago, use the above link to get the Windows
Install Cleanup utility , remove all entries that begin with, CC, cc, Norton,
Sym, SPBBC.. Warning!! If you have other Norton/Symantec apps that you want
to keep you will have to reinstall them or contact Symantec as mentioned for
more details..
Use the utility wisely, use caution, it can see other apps too..
Cheers

The link to that webpage works ok, but when I click on the download all
I get is "page cannot be found" "server cannot be found".

I have emailed symantec, hope they have a soultion.

I just downloaded the file with no issues, it's not the site :-)

Thanks for letting me know the download works ok. I've tried
downloading it using msn explorer and internet explorer and I get "page
cannot be found" I must have more problems than I thought. When I try
downloading the file I notice it starts with FTP, shouldn't it be HTTP?

No it's FTP and won't download if you have pop-ups blocked :-)

Yes- I used to have this here too. Open the Norton control
dialog. Click on tools (or config items) Antivirus. Go
through the whole dialog and un-check all items (disabling
them) when asked how long before re enable, answer never or
indefinitely. Ok out. Wait a few seconds for program to stop
functioning. Then open control panel , add/remove. Click on
Norton products remove, and if asked answer 'remove all'.

Note if you do not disable the program and updater, the
uninstaller will fail.

In Romans 1 there are qualities of Unregenerate man listed
which describe him in the last days.
Is your quality found on this list??- Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -

After following Lester's advice and disabling all of nortons settings,
I was then able to download the removal and got rid of norton and I now
have AVG installed.

Thank you all.

It was my understanding this did not work and left a ton of junk in the
registry.

It is gone from add/remove and notification area, there no more norton
or symantec folders in "explore-programs". it still shows when I run
belarc (listed as turned off) and a search of files shows some
entries, not sure if I should delete them or not, my hp all-in-one is
listed with them.
