Norton versus AVG/ZA

From what I've read here, if one were to compare Norton's Internet Security
(which contains both a firewall and the anti-virus program) against AVG and
the free version of ZA, most would point to the latter as preferrable. I
gather AVG and ZA are not as intrusive, do not take as many resources and
are free and therefore more desirable. Is this correct? Thanks.

I find newer versions of most Norton products to be bloatware, especially
Norton SystemWorks. AVG and Zone Alarm is one option. Sygate Personal is
another good free software firewall. The newest version of Zone Alarm Pro
has some interesting features as well. A properly configured router like the
Netgear RP614 ($35US at Newegg) does away with the need for a software
firewall. Lots of options are available.

AGV Free v I find 1st class. But no matter what it says
you have to manually update the virus files every few
days.
Go to AVG Control centre/Update Manager and click Update
now.Easy and no big deal when it is for for free.

I use AVG/ZA and they work great. AVG does update itself daily if you so
desire. Make sure you set it to Update if the database is older than 1 day.

AVG was purchased by Microsoft so who knows. But I really like the Norton
Antivirus program and use Zone Alarm Pro the paid version. The best of both
worlds I find. Along with Adaware and spybot and trojan remover keep the
system clean.

That would be my view. Also the Price / Performance ratio of AVG and ZA
(both having free versions) is far preferable
