has anyone noticed this program can seriously affect the
system performance and hard drive? programs wont open
until a full chkdsk has been run and we all know how long
that can take. theres a serious bug going on here -
someone should fix it. how does one report this to
microsoft?
cheers

Hi

MS has got nothing to do with the software that Norton produces. Try contacting Norton for their explanation.

Why is chkdsk being run? Did you initialize it?

Your experience is not typical. And chkdsk /f takes less than 10 minutes to
check the 5 partitions I have over two hard disks. You should suspect a
problem that is unrelated to Norton Antivirus (but may be exacerbated by
that software.) In particular, if you are required to run chkdsk /r
frequently to make your computer run, that is a sign that your hard disk is
failing.

In my opinion, anything Norton is to be avoided.. I know that Norton is
almost a household name, but the product line is still not good.. Norton has
always seemed to win in comparison tests, and call me sceptical if you will,
but somebody must be being paid to say that Norton is cool :).. MS do not
take responsibility for badly written third party software, and why should
they anyway?.. use other products that will give you the functionality that
you need/desire.. Norton has since been taken over by IBM.. the situation
will get no better and some might suggest that it could get a whole bunch
worse..

"...Norton has since been taken over by IBM..."

Where did you read that?

Rocky

"Norton has since been taken over by IBM"

This is not at all true. Symantec has not been "taken over" by IBM.

In response to the OP: There are many thousands of people using Norton
Products with no impact on system performance (myself included). I have the
following all installed on my computer:

1. Norton SystemWorks 2004 Professional
2. Norton Antivirus 2004 Professional
3. Norton Ghost
4. Norton Password Manager
5. Norton Internet Security Professional
6. Norton Anti-Spam

Even with all of these products installed, there is no impact on system
performance.

You only think there is no impact on performance. Delete all that garbage and
you'll wake up to the real world. (And save a bundle of money also).

Ya know what, I can't find where I read that.. however, I did have access to
material at one time that I no longer have.. oh well..

We all have our own personal preferences.. you are welcome to yours.. I
assume that you load Norton stuff directly after the OS, so quite how you
would know if they adversely affect your system is anybody's guess..
