I have two computers running XP Pro, both using XP
Office. One system I updated for SP1 the other not.
Both running Norton Systemworks 2003.

Only on the system that I updated to SP1, I get this
error. Norton thinks it is related to system
administrator rights. I am the system administrator with
full rights to the system. After loggin into XP as the
administrator, I installed Norton Systemworks 2003. The
error first came up during the installation process.

This is what I have tried so far.
Uninstalled Norton

reinstalled Norton and got the same error again.

Any suggestions?

The XP was a fresh install but I used the file transfer
protocol. The drive was a new drive, the old operating
system was on the drive now designated as "D"

I just fixed this same problem on my computer recently. The following is
copied from this link on Symantec's support knowledge base. Hope it works
for you.

Error: "Attention: Access Denied, Drive C:" after installing
Norton
SystemWorks

Situation:
You installed Norton SystemWorks (NSW) under Windows XP. When
the
computer restarts, you see the error message "Norton Protection,
Attention: Access denied, Drive C:." When you click OK, the
error
message disappears, but the Norton Protected Recycle Bin is
disabled. This happens every time that the computer is started.

Solution:
In most cases, this happens because you are using NTFS and the
Windows XP file permissions are not set correctly. You must set
Administrator and System to Allow all actions. How you do this
depends on your version of Windows XP.

Note: This information is provided for your convenience. If you
have
questions about how to set permissions that are not answered
here,
or if your system is set up differently, consult your Microsoft
Windows documentation.

To set permissions for Windows XP Professional:
Click Start, and then click My Computer.
Click Tools, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
In the Advanced settings box, scroll to the bottom of the
list.
Clear "Use simple file sharing."
Click OK.
Right-click the C drive icon, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab.
In the "Name" box, click Administrator.
In the "Permissions" list, check "Allow" for all items in the
list.
Repeat steps 9 and 10 for System.
Click OK, and then restart the computer.

If this does not fix the problem, then read the document Error:
"Attention: Access Denied, Drive C:" after installing Norton
Utilities 2002.

To set permissions for Windows XP Home Edition:
Restart the computer in Safe mode. For instructions, read the
document How to start Windows XP in Safe Mode.
Click Start, and then click My Computer.
Right-click the C drive icon, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab.
In the Name box, click Administrator.
In the Permissions list, check "Allow" for all items in the
list.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 for System.
Click OK, and then restart the computer.

If this does not fix the problem, then try the following:
Disable and then re-enable the Norton Protected Recycle Bin.
Set Norton Protection to "Configure drives independently."

To disable and then re-enable the Norton Protected Recycle Bin:
Right-click the Norton Protected Recycle Bin desktop icon, and
then click Properties.
Click the Norton Protection tab, and then clear Enable
Protection.

Click OK.
Restart the computer.
Right-click the Recycle Bin desktop icon, and then click
Properties.
Click the Norton Protection tab, and then check Enable
Protection.

Click OK.

To set Norton Protection to "Configure drives independently":
Right-click the Norton Protected Recycle Bin, and then click
Properties.
Click the Global tab.
Click the "Configure drives independently" radio button.
Click the Norton Protection tab.
For each drive letter listed, except removable drives, check
Enable Protection.
