I am running Norton System Works 2003 with Go Back. The
Go Back icon keeps popping up when I start my system with
the option of re-enabling or leaving disabled. The Go
Back program takes too long and more or less replaces the
function of system restore. This is why I disabled it.
Is there a way of removing only that portion of Norton so
it does not tamper with my system restore function?

Click on RUN
Type "msconfig" NO QUOTES
There is a last tab called Startup. Find your program
into that and clear the check mark. You might need to
restart your machine.

Hope this helps.

Go Back uses much hard drive space if you don't plan on
using it I would uninstall it

Open the norton system works , go to the EXTRA FEATURES
and remove the GO BACK. XP does not like the GO BACK if
you have SYSTEM RESTORE enabled on XP.
