I recently upgraded to XP and for some reason, the Norton Internet Security
icon does not show up in the taskbar on every startup. Sometimes it does,
other times, ti does not. I know it is running because the task manager
shows the process is running. I like having the icon there so I can get to
the functions easier. It also lets me know it is running. Any suggestions?

This is a setting within NIS
Go to NIS Options Tab and select General Tab
You'll see the Tray Icon Settings,
Check what you want.

If the above is not the case, sometimes auto logon causes some icons not to
appear in the notification area.

You sure the icon isn't hidden? Is there a chevron icon on the leftside
of the tray icon area that you can click on to see more icons?
Right-click on the taskbar, Properties, and either uncheck Hide Icons or
click on Customize to decide how you want tray icons handled.
