I installed the version 9.0 of Ghost and all went ok. Had to also install MS
net and did that too.

I see in the Startup the Norton Ghost but when I click on it I get error:

1068. The dependency service or group failed to start

From there no Help screen or advice what to do.

Appreciate help and advice. Thanks in advance

Have you tried simply uninstalling Ghost and rebooting then reinstalling
Ghost?

Contact Symantec Tech support. It's their product.

However, It might be a windows xp service.

However, He might need to do this.
Stop all of Nortons Services in services.msc
(Not disable)

Reboot.

If that does not work try this.
Install the 1st Net frame work version
dotnetfx.exe
then install this version
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP 1
The install any update to the net framework from windows update.

I would never use ghost 9.0
I use ghost from system works pro 2003.

Greg - I notice that you included a couple of lines at the bottom of your
post that you would never use Ghost 9, but you use Ghost 2003. Why is that?
I used Ghost 2003 and it saved my skin once in a big way. Just installed
Ghost 9 and found it much more convenient to work with (from inside
Windows). Just wondering about your thoughts on this.

To My knowledge,
I don’t think ghost 9 can not restore ntfs from a dos boot disk like.

Ghost 9 requires activation.
Ghost 9 Does not work on Windows 98, Me, 2000, Nt, linux, e.t.c

You might be able to do this if you install 2003 version from ghost 9.

One correction to your post..... Ghost 9.0 does work with Win2000
provided you have installed the .NET Framework garbage MS has
supplied.

Hey Greg R I've been trying to reach Symantec tech support for a ghost issue
for a week now but they haven't gotten back to me as of yet.

can you provide the e-mail address of the tech support person you've been
working with??

would be much appreciated.

I have no idea. I only used their support site once. They took about
one week and emailed me. The sayed my problem was caused by system
commander vcom being installed. He/she told me not to use it.
However, I don’t listen to bad advice. I figured out a way to use
both ghost & system commander together without no problems.

I disabled system commander. Then made a system commander partition
disk and a ghost boot disk

Then I started from scratch. Made four partition (They way I wanted
it)
Installed win98se on partition 1 (Fat32) with system commander and
Ghost 2003*

Installed winxp on partition 2 (Fat32) System commander and Ghost
is not installed.

Partition 3 (Fat32) No Os
Partition 4 (Fat32) No Os

*Since my last clean install. I only use ghost from a boot disk.

Getting back to my fix.
Start up windows98. Disabled system commander. Reboot with a ghost
boot disk. Then back up. (Same way to restore it.)

If your system is corrupted and you can’t disable system commander
here is a controversial fix if you have a boot error-after you
restore.

use a windows 98 boot disk.
Using Fdisk
Set the windows 98 partition active
Reboot with floppy still in drive
Make sure drive C is the win98 partition

Then type
Fdisk /MBR
Remove floppy and reboot.
Enable System commander

you ae correct, you don't use a boot floppy. instead you boot to your
ghost 9 CD, which in my opinion is a step forward.

You normally have to change the boot sequence in BIOS in order to boot from
the CD at system startup.
Julian

Carefully watch your startup sequence. Many systems will display something
like "Press any key to boot from CD" for approximately 5 seconds when a
bootable CD is detected. If you DON'T press your any key, the system moves
on in the boot sequence.
