Norton Doesn't Install

My norton 2004 doesn't install i had trial before then i deleted before expiary date, And well now i cant install retail nor trial i get this error saying failed to install Norton gives me two options abort/retry. i can post a screen shot if you guys want.

Symantec has a tool at their web site to help you completely uninstall their
product, and then you might be able to reinstall it.
 
Make sure you removed all traces of the trial version software. Check to
see if you still have a Norton folder in your Program Files folder. Go to
Add/Remove Programs and if you find a listing for Norton, choose to
uninstall it. Reboot and then try to install the retail version. I'm not a
fan of Norton as it seems to be the cause of a large number of problems with
Windows XP. I use the following software for protection on my Windows XP
system:

Zone Alarm Pro
AVG Anti-Virus (Free Version)
Pest Patrol Standard
Ad-Aware (Free)
Spybot Search and Destroy (Free)

I paid about $30.00 for Zone Alarm Pro, a two-year subscription by the way,
and I love it. Pest Patrol Standard came with it as a bundle offer. The
rest of the utilities are free. I am extremely happy with all of them,
especially AVG Anti-Virus. It is really good, and easy on system resources.

Consider the alternatives to Norton. You can always take it back if you
have your receipt.

also make sure that Microsoft office is not installed or else there will be a conflict such as whne opening a office document it will say there is one running by you

I had a similar problem with Norton. After uninstalling it as completely as
I could I went into the registry and deleted everything there that said
Symantec/Norton, rebooted and tried again. It installed beautifully. I
believe it was found under "Current User/software". :-)

I had a similar problem a few years ago. I searched for all the SYMANTEC
folders and deleted everything I found - then went into the registry and
DELETED all the SYMANTEC crap there, rebooted = then the retail version of
System Works installed like a charm and never caused us a problem. :-)

Using the uninstall doesn't remove the Symantec "trash" from the registry.
Or it didn't in our case and that screwed up trying to install Norton
System Works.
