Norton Disk Doctor-exclusive access

When I run Norton Disk Doctor I come up with a window that says: "The operating system, or another process, currently has exclusive access to this drive, or some of it's files. Norton Disk Doctor cannot continue with a repair under these conditions. Norton Disk Doctor can still diagnose this drive if "Fix Errors" is unchecked.

Check Disk also will not run for the same reason. I've deleted all spyware, defragged, ran Norton WinDoctor. I can't seem to find what the problem is. Does anyone know

Thanks.

It is a shame that Symantec has reverted to a charge per issue basis for technical support on the Web

Call up your local support number for Symantec and demand that they answer your question without charge to you

It is an offense to human nature to supply a product that doesn't work or cannot be made to work without extra expense being incurred by the purchaser

From my understanding: Windows XP 'locks' the drive and prevents unauthorised access to processes [Norton] that wish to alter drive information

I have removed the utilities from my PC where Norton's violates the Windows rules

If you want, run CHKDSK /R to diagnose and repair disk problems.

Busyme,
That is normal operating procedure under Disk Doctor. In the same splash
screen it offers you to schedule the check and repairs for the next start
up. Just say YES, re-boot and you (together with Disk Doctor) are back in
business. It is all described in detail in the System Works manual.

Have fun

Okay, thanks....WinXP is great for some things...but obviously a pain for others. Thanks for the help.

Great, thanks for the help. I knew I could reboot and chkdsk would work, but it sure is inconvienent.
