In past versions of Word, the page and line numbers appeared in the "normal view", however, this option is not available in Word 2003 unless I switch to print layout. How can I access this option in normal view?
 
Page and line numbers have never been displayed *on the page* in Normal
view. Are you talking about the display in the status bar? If you're not
seeing them there, make sure you don't have "Background repagination"
disabled (General tab of Tools | Options). Other settings that can affect
this display are "Draft font" and "Wrap to window" (View tab of Tools |
Options).
