I tried some "tweaks" i think the one that messed up my system was delete
page file on shut down. as soon as i enabled it. my pc wouldnt start
properly. got it running, but. It says my hard disc is in a "bad" status.
Backup and Recover? What should i do? I have a 200gb har drive with a 40gb C:
prtition for my windws and a 160gb part for my songs etc......

Please help. Ths is most lame.

Hi

Try a System Restore back to a point before you opted for that setting.
However, clearing the Pagefile at shutdown should work without giving you
any problems.

no :( it says to backup and replace. does that mean i have to reinstall my
windows? :( says somethign liek S.M.A.R.T Status BAD : Backup and Replace

Hi

You'll have to read the documentation you have for SMART. Last time I got a
SMART error message, I had to replace the hard disk!!

If SMART is reporting a problem with the HDD, reinstalling Windows will not fix it. SMART reports problems with your HDD check the drive makers site for an explanation.

| argh no way! :( i'm gonna reinstall windows maybe? yes or no. thankyou for
| the advice so far

Your Hard drive WILL fail, and when it does, you will lose ALL information
on it.. better to bite the bullet now and re-install to a new drive..

Yes, I'm afraid so. It's the only SMART message I've, but... You're
probably better off getting a new HD now and installing XP onto that. If
the HD is failing, re-installing XP won't help.

Yeah thanks. I called up quietpc.com where i bought it nd im sending it back
and should be recieving a new one. I wsnt very impressed with the seagate
baracudda 200gb anyway, Quiet my ass. I hope reinstalling my windows doesnt
make microsoft all funny with me. And norton subscription. What happens when
i reactivate windows? :/

Nothing, you can activate Windows as often as you want on the same computer.

Except if you replace hardware. Replacing one component shouldn't cause a
problem though. Once you add RAM and get a new video card, it will be about
then that the Activation System thinks you're trying to install XP on a
different machine.

You can activate Windows as often as you want on the same computer, as long
as you have the retail version of Windows XP. Hardware changes do not
prevent this.
