Hi

I am going to do a windows xp home re-install over the xmas break. I have
cd, key, instructions etc, all I am not clear on is does the process when
booting from the CD format the drive, in other words clean the drive. If not
how do I clean the drive first.

Any other tips appreciated, best to get it right first time

Cheers

The process of booting from the CD does not automatically format the drive
but you are given the opportunity to do so.

As Mr. Saunders has said, formatting is not automatic. You have to
select it. Since I don't know how specific the instructions you have
are, here are links to Michael Stevens' website which has precise
information:

OK, Many thanks. These instructions are far more detailed. Thanks for the
repair suggestion Will, but I am going for a clean install. More work but
longer term gains, I hope.

If I have understood correctly at the partition option, you have the option
to format the drive.

Best regards
Steve

Hi

You delete the partition and then create a new one. That's explained in 10b
of Michaels's article.

OK Got it, many thanks - I did read it must not have gone in. I suppose it's
easier to read this when you are doing it.

Many thanks

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
