I am trying to install a genuine copy of XP over a 'non genuine' copy in
order for Microsoft to validate it. The installation gets as far as the
'Windows Installation' page and stops. I have tried this on a number of
occasions. Can any one offer any advice on the subject?

Hi

Is the new XP CD a Retail or OEM version? Are you trying a 'Repair' install?

Hello Will. This is a Retail version. I am trying to install it over a non
genuine version, so that Microsoft will validate it.

And you don't realize that

1. People need information from you in order to help you.

2. Being rude to those trying to help is the surest way to have nobody want
to help you.

No one can help if you don't provide at least a modicum of
pertinent information.

I am very sorry if I have caused any offence, but it was not intensional. I
was advised to do a 'clean' install over the 'non original', but it would go
no further than the Windows installation page, and stops. What other info. do
you require.

all it would take. However , when I got to the Wndows install page, it
stopped responding. Is there any other info. that I can give?

Simply boot from the WinXP SP1a installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Bruce, thank's for the info, but I have tried this on a number of occasions.
It goes to 'press any key to boot from CD.' 'Checking hardware config'. Blue
screen saying windows installation. THEN STOPS. Anything else that you can
add?
