I am having a problem with a fresh install of XP on Vaio laptop. I saw in
another post reply that XP will NOT boot if the fan on the processor is not
running. Is this true? The fan on the laptop only runs when it get hot.
If this is the problem, is there any work around? Thanks for any
information you can provide as I am just an 'end-user' and not a pc
professional.

Well, I have gone to the Sony site and downloaded the Bios update and all of
the files that they have listed and have followed their step-by-step
instructions. I first did not run the Bios update because it was the same
version that I was already using. After the clean install, it would boot up
fine. After the laptop had been shut down for an hour or so, it would boot
into the screen giving the options of 'safe mode', 'last know good
confiuration', etc. And then it would just keep booting into the same
screen. I finally decided to try the Bios update and it would only complete
to about 98 or 99%. I did not try a repair install but I tried another
clean install and it does the same thing. Any suggestions? Thanks.
