noisy computer

Hi,
My computer has just started dinging today like someone is popping in but
nobody is and my speaker is even off so what could the problem be?

If your computer hasn't already died, turn it off and unplug it -- you are
hearing the "I am so hot that I am going to die" alarm from the Motherboard
speaker.
One (or more) of your system fans has failed, or is so full of dust bunnies
as to be ineffective.
