I thank you for your reply but I have no cd to work with. I need to create a
set of recovery disks but have no clue where to start. Then I can fix
everything I need. Any suggestions? I have no software for this pc. The
person is trying to find it but it will take time. If not soon I will use my
old pc and wait until I can fix this one. I have a Dell Demension 4300. Any
help would be appreciated. If I can download the software info from the web
and then create the disks it would help for now.

Do you have no CD drive, or did you lose the Windows XP CD that should have come
with the computer? In general, Dell supplies a system recovery CD for
correcting your specific problem.

I don't remember if "CD reader" is one of the stated requirements for Windows
XP, but if not, it's a generally available component. If your computer doesn't
have a CD reader, I'd wonder whether your computer is XP compatible. Very few
computers are sold currently without a CD reader.

The magical recovery floppies, when used, can be created from a wizard accessed
thru Help and Support, but they still require a CD to finish the recovery. You
can't do anything without one. A CD hold 700M or so of code, a floppy 1M or so.
You do the math, and decide if you want to recover your system from floppies.
