NO xp CD for SFC to use

Since installing Sp2 when I run SFC I'm being prompted to put in the XP CD
in order to replace some files with originals. I don't have a XP CD. my
computer didn't come with a CD. it says " files that are required for windows
to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions.. to maintain
system stability , windows must restore the original versions of these files"
All I can do at that point is click cancel. it asks if I want to leave the
unrecognized files... I say yes... then it continues to run and finish.
Having read the posts here, I can conclude that the files that are
unrecognized were installed at by windows update, and leaving them is just
fine. OR... I have to make some registry entry to show SFC where to get the
original files. My registry points to Windows/I386, but most of what I've
found says there should be a C/I386 and it should be directed there in the
registry. I have no C/I386. It seems like I did at one point though.
I've seen other posts that say the service pack folder should be the
one that SFC is directed to.
Anyway... I'd like some advice. thanks so much

Slipstreamed SP2 CD is needed to repair a SP2 install.
There is no SP2 files on an orignal XP CD , unless you buy a new one when
they are available.

This is not reinstall - it is an SFC run

Installing SP2 makes a folder at Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 for the
components it provides - this will be used by SFC

If the machine was installed 'OEM', there ought to be another \i386
folder somewhere (Probably in Windows) holding the original components
where applicable.

These folders will be referred to in registry (check with regedit.exe)
at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
as ServicePackSourcePath and SourcePath respectively (each pointing to
the folder *containing* the \i386)

But if it is one where the maker just provides a CD with an image to
restore to ex-factory state (or even worse a hidden partition), this
original \i386 may be not there

Everything you posted indicates that I'm set up correctly, but why then am I
getting the message that I need the XP CD? I'm going to assume that it's XP
warning me that I'm replacing original files with Sp2 files. And I also
assume that's what I want to happen.

Thank you very much. your post actually answered my question :)
