I have noticed this on several pc's lately, the sounds for windows events
don't work. If you go to the control panel \ sounds. You can click on each
one and they work fine. They just don't work during normal operation.
Everything appears to be set correctly.. ???? Any ideas ??

Does everything include the Sound Scheme, under the Sounds (TAB) ?
Windows Default and not "No Sounds".

It is set for the default. And all the sounds work when you test them from
within the "sounds" box...

I'm not aware of any Group Policy that inhibits Windows Sounds.
Since you can play them individually, then the Windows Audio
service is obviously running. Have you opened your Volume Ctrl
and checked "All" the sliders for level/mute ? Also, most Sound
card drivers have a control applet in Control Panel, have you
checked that to see if it's hooking/overriding the normal Sound
control. Are these all similar vendor/models or a mix ?

Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm and click on
the little booklet to the left of "Where did my Sounds go".
