I just started up my new Dell PC with Win XP Media Center. I apparently
need the CD to enable my old computer to share its files, but it was not
provided. Does anyone know if this is normal or a mistake?

You don't need the XP cd to set up file/printer sharing. As for what you
got with the new system, look at the documents that came with your new
computer. If you want physical media, contact Dell and have them send
it to you.

Normally to set up a home network (Local Area Network = lan), just run
XP's Network Setup Wizard on both computers. Then adjust your firewall
settings on both computers accordingly. Here are some links to help you
with home networking:

Dell is required to provide you with some means to restore the system.
They have three options:

1. Installation CD
2. Recovery CD(s)
3. Hidden partition on the hard drive with an image of the system as
shipped that can be restored.

Check the documentation to see what came with the system. And no they
are not required to provide an installation CD.
