Hi, I've just switched to XP and have a couple of issues ... for one, there
is no sound when I receive an email (even though somewhere I asked that a
sound be played) and also the volume adjustment on the computer itself
doesn't work as it used to with my last operating system. Anyone out there
have a solution??
Many thanks.

Determine what make of computer you have.. if it is an HP, Compaq or other
big name, go to the manufacturer website and look for compatible sound
drivers..

OR.. look in the manual supplied with your computer..

OR.. look in the manual supplied with the mainboard..

OR.. download the program 'Everest Home Edition' on this website and see if
it gives specific sound card information..

With the knowledge gained from this program, go to the appropriate website
and download XP drivers for your sound card..

Thank you much for your very precise instructions - which is just what I
need! I managed to work my way through all the steps as you describe them,
although unfotunately I could not find my particular sound card on the list.
I do get sounds, I just can't adjust the volume with the computer's volume
buttons.
I went ahead and tried to update the driver anyway, but it said it couldn't
find any newer drivers than the ones I already had.
Extraordinary problems indeed!
