NO Video

I have XP pro installed
Whether I boot in safe mode or enable VGA mode, all I get
when I get to windows is my mouse.
The rest is black.
I have port video, XP splash screen video.
In safe mode I also get "Safe Mode" in all four corners
but still the rest is black.
I have also tried the recovery console, a reinstall(over
top of the install)

Any help is appreciated.

Just an update, this problem started after the service
pack update.

Is there a way I can reverse this update, keep in mind
that I can't see my desktop to uninstall it.
I was also unable to create a restore point before the
sp1 update.
 
I was curious if you tried starting in dos with a windows 9x emergency disk?
Can you see the a>?
