No Video Signal On Boot

Dell OptiPlex GX1p, Intel 440BX board, Phoenix BIOS rev A10, onboard AGP
video, Win2K sp4.

I recently upgraded this machine from NT (brand new hard drive, clean
install). When I start the machine, the green lights on the machine
appear to indicate that it is booting properly, but there is no video
signal. Pushing the restart button on the machine appears to correct
whatever the trouble is: the machine reboots, and this time there *is*
video signal. This was not an issue with an identical GX1p which I
upgraded to Win2K some months back.

This appears to be a non-OS related problem, and since the machine is
now 5 years old, it's entirely possible that all I need to do is flash a
new BIOS. But getting Dell to answer a specific hardware issue like this
on a machine with an expired warranty is kind of like bashing one's head
against the wall...

....alternative suggestions are welcome...

Does dell support site give any downloads for yr origonal sys?
Since it comes to life on the second boot sounds allmost like a dry joint on
the mobo graphics.
If it is the onboard graphics, can you not disable and install a graphics
card.

Thanks for replying. The guy at Dell, who responded on the Dell forum,
suggested the same. I think I'll try putting in one of my spare ATI AGP
cards and see what happens.

BTW, could you please fill me in on "a dry joint on the mobo graphics"?
I'm not clear on the concept.

'Dry joint' means basically an electrical connection that may have not been
made correctly during manu. Could also be a connection breaking down. eg
memory modules and cards used to / can suffer oxidisation at the connection
point/ the slot, therefore not make a 'proper' connection.
The prob could also be a component that is failing.
