Yves--

Hi, after booting the PC, I only get the bleu screen with windows XP logo
and nothing else.
It stays forever like that, unspite you hear disk access etc..
The same in every way, Safe Mode, Normal mode, Diagnostic start up,
It always get me to the same screen, but no accounts.

I manage to start with the CD the Recovery console, and I can get to the
files. The chkdsk /P /R does not give any error.
The fixboot neither.

I even started the Knoppix CD (great!) and can access the harddisk (read)
and have networkaccess. Were do I have to look what is going wrong?
The final solution would be coping all relevant data to another PC and start
from scratch...

But I find it difficult to believe this is the only way...

Some suggestions about this 'no user account' logon status?
Make me happy please ;-)

random guess: try doing ctrl-alt-del twice. Should bring up the regualr
logon box, ie, no welcome screen. Can you log in that way?

No, I tried this one already. It stays forever with the XP logo screen. No
logon.
This was one of the first I tried. Thank you anyway for the quick respons.
cya Barry, tnx.

I suspect someone's deleted all the users... What about safe mode? You should
be able to see at least the built-in Administrator account.

Nope, if this was the case barry, I would not postfor help. Like I wrote,
all possible startup modes are having the same outcome : Windows Blue Logon
Screen with the XP logo and NO accounts. (ctrl alt del, twice neither !)
Knoppix CD http://www.knoppix.com is giving me read acces to the C:
disk, and so I could check the <ntbtlog.txt >file: a lot of not started
devicedrivers.

btw : with this Knoppix, a complete Linux distribution bootable as it is
from CD , one has a very easy tool to debug and save data when XP won't
start. So my data is safe. I just won't accept the fact I have to re-install
Window XP completely, loosing al little things and settings of the PC.
