disabled the function ..... Does anyone know how I can re-enable it?

Thanks .... (e-mail address removed)

Try:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316524

And if you start getting emails from someone claiming to be "Microsoft" and
containing attachments - ERASE THEM. You used your real email (maybe) and
you WILL get spam.

Not necessarily. I use my real Email address for every post, and I
get neither viruses nor spam because my Email service filters them.
If yours does not, maybe you should try a different service.

I like to see real Email addresses because some replies are best kept
private. I hate all this "don't use your real Email address!"
advice, because it amounts to an admission that the spammers have won.
And I refuse to admit that, especially while there is a better option.

Just my (way off topic) $0.02.

Patrick,

You are correct, for the most part. However, the majority of the people I
give this advice to WILL start getting more spam because they posted without
knowing any better and the majority of them are getting popups, messenger
spam, viruses and spy/malware and are asking advice about that now. The
chances they have a decent spam filter service (either through their ISP,
email provider or on their computer) is slim.

Therefore I think it best they know of the dangers.

Yeah, I was more expressing frustration than really trying to argue.

Maybe suggesting that people use "munged" addresses
(...REMOVETHIS@...) provides a reasonable compromise? Un-munging is
not so bad, especially compared to being unable to send a personal
reply at all.

Agreed. I prefer to be able to send them emails myself - un-munging is not
so bad and when I think it is necessary (I don't in every case) - I will
start suggesting they use munged addresses instead of "purely" anonymous. =)
