no tool tips on system tray/quick launch

What would cause the tool tips for the items on the task bar to no longer
show up? They were there at 3 pm but not at 4pm. Rebooting fixes it, but
what caused it? I believe the PCs in the lab where I teach are Win2K, with
network reload of all but My Docs overight.

No idea, this also happens with MsXP. Sometimes, it comes back without
rebooting...
