Hi all,

I hope you can assist me with the following problem. I dowloaded the
evaluation version of windows Xp embedded a week ago and have been
attempting to build an embedded OS ever since. I have followed all the
relevant online tutorials but I constantly get the same problem, even
though I have changed my target system twice.

I followed the standard operating procedure, run TAP, create a
component, import it into the database etc. I then add the new Device
component to my list in the Target designer, add the "information
appliance" template, add the explorer shell and configure the user
interface core component. After all this I run a dependancy check.
Afterwards i resolve the remaining dependancies and proceed to build
it.

Once the image is down on the target system I always get the same
results. There is a small grey line at the bottom which is the task
bar, but with no start button. If i press the windows button on my
keyboard, a start menu appears, but it is empty, exept for wher it
says internet explorer, but there is no IE icon.

If I press the explorer hot key, explorer starts up, but it is not
shown on the task bar. I can right click on the task bar and set all
the usual options, but they have no effect. I also notice that when I
browse my system using exporer, that there are no icons for the files
and folders it finds.

I have been batteling with this for a week now and still have no
solution. I have attempted including and excluding a host of various
components and have palyed with every setting on the user interface
core, nothing works.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Adrian Freemantle

Look at the fbalog.txt from the runtime at .\windows\fba so you can see
if there is anything obvious going on.

If in doubt, post it to the newsgroup so we can look at it.

Thanks

OK, two wierd things - maybe the task bar is minimized? Can you drag
the grey line that's visible up to make the task bar taller? How about
moving it to the side of the screen?

Second thing to check is the monitor settings - perhaps the vertical
scan is too big for the screen? Sounds stupid, but I've seen it happen,
albeit with DOS and green screen monitors.
