My problem is similar to Andrew's, but there is
no "sound" newsgroup, only "music" so here I am.

All was working well until a power failure, no I have no
sound from anything.

- I get a message from Media Player saying "there is a
problem with your sound device...".
- I get a message from another sound application
saying "all wave devices for this for this format are in
use...".
- cant hear any system sounds.
- boot changes nothing.
- reinstalling Media Player and sound drivers does
nothing.
- some applications appear to play but nothing is heard.

Where do I go with this problem?

Thanks - Bill S

Try uninstalling sound card in control panel then reboot to re-install. May
also help to search manufacturers website for updated drivers to install.

Dear "Yeloduke", I tried uninstalling the sound card and
it worked great immediately after I booted, XP found
the "new hardware" and reinstalled the card by itself.
Many many thanks, it did take me a while to figure out
how to "uninstall" the card however.
