no sound

i am running windows XP professional and i have a cmedia pci card i have got the latest drivers installed for it but i still don't get no sound i have done the help and support troubleshooter for sound and it didn't help i have just upgraded from windows98 se and it was working fine then.
 
This may be a start; Go to Control Panel, Sounds, Sounds & Audio, First
Advanced Tab (See if MUTE is checked in any box), Second Advanced Tab (See
Which speakers are "Chosen" in the "Speaker Set Up" Dropdown. Good luck...
