No Sound Recorded

I have been trying to record to my PC from a tape player. I connected a lead
from the headphone socket of my tape player to the microphone input on my PC
and successfully recorded with Windows Sound Recorder. As I could only do
this for a maximum of 60 seconds I used this forum to find out more.

As a result I then downloaded Audacity 1.2.2. When I tried to record with
this it didn’t record anything. What has further confused me is that if I
now try and record with Windows Sound Recorder I now don’t get anything. If
I reconnect the microphone I am able to record sound but I don’t if I connect
to the tape player but I could before I installed Audacity.

The PC is SoundMAX Digital Audio as the recording device. This is the only
device available to select. I can’t remember if there were any others to
select before I installed Audacity.

I seem to have gone backwards with this. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Sorru, too handy with the send button.

Connect the tape machine to your line-in plug on your PC. Make sure that is
selected as the input device then Audacity should record via that input.

Cheers,

Are you sure you set up the input device correctly in Audacity? You should
have a drop-down menu with Microfon among other options.
