I have sound, my speakers work with all system sounds EXCEPT there seems to be no sound assigned to the volume control, meaning when I raise the volume bar, I can not hear the Windows XP Ding.

I recently had to reinstall windows.

Go to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Sound>Look in Sound Scheme
and Program Events.

did you install the drivers for your sound card.
These drivers will be found on the CD that was supplied with your mother board.

Hi, thanks for responding. I have been there a thousand times. I get sound from my speakers everything works fine except that volume bar I hear a ping of sorts beleive it or not behind the hard drive tower...and not in any of the speakers.
I know this sounds really silly but its the stupidest thing that is making me crazy.
All sound cards and devices are working properly.
GRRRRR.......

Hi Rich, I have tried that what seems to be a million times. All devices, soundcards speakers are working properly. Its that Play Control/Volume Control on the task bar that is not working. I hear a beepbeep beleive it or not from the back of the hard drive if move the volume bar. Its something that has been driving me nuts now for a few weeks and I cannot find the problem! Contacting Dell is not worth the aggravation for a minor thing like this.

This is just a mystery to me.

Just to add to what M.Rajesh suggested, you can look online for updated
audio drivers. If it's a audio
chip on the motherboard then go to the boards manufacturer website. If
a specific Sound Card then
go to it's manufacturers website.
