I just reinstalled Windows XP Home. Everything is
working except that I have no sound. I see C-Media AC97
Audio Device, but when trouble shooting it says "The
devise cannot start. Code 10" and to uninstall and
reinstall device. I tried with no success. I didn't
change any hardware etc. and don't know where to start.
Will you please point me in the right direction?

Thank you,
Richard

Original driver files have helped:
http://www.cmedia.com.tw/e_download_01.htm

You may also wish to try your motherboard's website to avoid trying to guess
which C-Media chip you have. In any event "Code 10 = driver problem."

In the extreme, you may need to manually find and delete all the files
previously attempted - this may be a short list, but no guarantees (check
your .inf file):
cmuda.sys
udaprop.dll
cmids3d.dll
Audio3D.dll
cmicnfg.cpl
cmuda.dll
Personally, instead of deleting them, I would rename and then copy/delete
them out of the way... just in case. Don't MOVE them - copy, paste and
delete the originals.

Find the XP drivers for your sound card and install them accd. to the
docs.
