Jason

I just reinstalled WinXP Pro (over my the old
installation) and I'm not getting any sound at all. I have
a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy X-Gamer sound card. I
reinstalled the drivers from the installation disk, I
checked the hardware devices and it is there. I even re-
seeded the sound card, but nothing is working. I also
double checked all the volume settings. I also ran Belarc
and it lists the soundcard. This is just driving me
insane.... Please help!!

P.S.

I had to reinstall Windows because the file Hal.dll was
missing or corrupt. I tried all the fixes I saw on the
net, but to no avail.

Jason: Sometimes the reinstall causes the XP volume
control to be muted. Look in the task bar for the little
speaker thingy and click it and see what the sound level
is. Also, I have been told that installing XP over old
systems is not advisable. Whenever I reinstall XP Pro I
do a clean install. Hope this helps. David H.

Thanks for your reply David. I checked all the volume
controls and everything seems OK. It's really weird,
because there are no errors and the computer seems to
recognize the soundcard. My speakers are OK because I
tried them in my old Win98 system.

(this might be a re-post, I answered but it did not show
up)

Thanks for your reply David. I did check all of the
volume controls and they are OK. It's so weird, the
computer recognizes the soundcard but no sound?!?! I
updated the drivers from Soundblaster, but to no avail.
The speakers are OK, I tried them in my old Win98 system.

"Where did my sound go?"

Jason: I would go to Creative Labs and download and
install the latest Audigy driver. See if that helps.

Determine if the DirectSound interface is working properly.
Click Start > Run... > "dxdiag".
Check the Direct Sound tab to run tests and confirm that
your DirectX interface is operating properly.
This can also be caused by a problem in the MMC SubSystem
(if the application uses it).

Thanks everybody for all of your help. I'll try the fixes
in the morning and let you know how it goes.
