no sound from headphones

hi
for some reason i can't get any sound from my headphones. They had been working properly up untill now. I have now put on speakers with a seperate amplafier and pluged them into that but still no joy. I have also tried different headphones but no luck. Anyone got any ideas
than
 
Have you looked in Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Volume>Advanced.

no nothing in there that seems to help me thanx. Any other sugestions please.

Are you sure that the appropriate adjustments have been made in all
portions of the volume applet? IOW, are CD Audio, wave, etc. at
appropriate levels?

Alternatively, you woudn't per chance be working on a laptop, would
you? Some, such as Toshibas, have a sliding volume control on the side
that overrides the volume control in Windows. IOW, if it's down too
low, there's nothing you're going to change in Windows to repair it.
