I have just installed Windows XP Pro, overwriting Windows
98SE. I now have no sound - can anybody advise me
(please bear in mind I have very little technical
knowledge. Could I have done something to my original
sound card?

thanks

Hello
You will more then likely have to visit the website of your PC manufacturer
and find out if they offer an update for the sound card for XP if not visit
the website of the sound card and find the driver there. If all else fails
sound cards are relatively inexpensive.
Be sure to visit MS Update site and download all the critical updates for
your security and safety.

Hi! I've just done exactly the same thing - installed XP
over 98SE. I had no sound in Windows (but CDs played OK)
and I realised that I had no sound theme set up. Go to
Control Panel and select the Sounds, Speech and Audio
Devices option, then "Change the sound scheme". You might
find that there is no scheme enabled so choose Windows
default for now and see if it works. If this doesn't
solve it, then it may be that you need to update your
sound card driver by going to the manufacturer's web site
and downloading the latest driver. Hope this helps!
