in a different area or what. Larry

You must mean this newsgroup posting:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general/browse_frm/thread/d6d052c3e30f8606

That's because you seemingly solved your own problem. You stated that,
"[They] told me to create another user profile. I done this and the
download went where it is supposed to with no missing files."

In other words - your old user profile is corrupt in some way. Your best
bet is to not use that profile and just copy your files/favorites/etc to the
new profile. It will solve your problem the fastest way possible and fix
who knows how many unseen issues you might have now in one fell swoop.

May seem like a bad solution - but troubleshooting a proven corrupt profile
whose only known symptom at this time is an inability to download (install?)
some third party (and not widely distributed to standard home consumers one
would think) software properly seems like more trouble than it is worth (for
even you) if you have found the viable solution talking to the software's
manufacturers. ;-)

Text of old post copied here for convenience of others:
Hello I am having problems with downloading a driver package. The download
goes into two different folders with some files missing as well.
The download is suppose to go into My computer\doc. and
settings\larry\(make a new folder here as Medtronic. It does this with files
missing , but also downloads to My computer\doc. and
settings\larry\desktop\(and makes a new folder here as well named Medtronic
with missing files also.

I contacted medtronic (a medical device supply company) for help, They
did'nt know why this was happening, and told me to create another user
profile. I done this and the download went where it is supposed to with no
missing files. Can someone help me strighten out this problem for me????????
Thank You Larry

My PC is running Win XP Pro SP3 and is up to date

If the new profile you created works properly, then copy the files from
the old (possibly corrupt) profile to the new one and then delete the
old profile:

Thanks for getting back with me. The download creates its own folder. The
other responders suggest using the new profile, which i will do Thanks again

Thanks for your responce so quickly. If I use the new profile and delete the
other one, will that delete the problem as well. I mean like don't I maybe
have a virus or somthing. I did a malwarebytes scan the other day and it
found Trogan.blob and Adware.BHO I deleted them and it quarantined them,
but how do I know that I am clean of bugs in my pc. Larry

Thanks for getting back to me fast. I can do that, but I did a malwarebytes
scan the other day and it found Trogan.zlob and Adware.BHO also. I am not
convinced that my pc is clean, and is this whats causing my first problem to
begin with. Larry

Run Malwarebytes again.

And run SUPERantispyware.

And run Spybot Search and Destroy.

If you get through all of those clean... you might be clean.

You are supposed to do these scans in Safe Mode, or Safe Mode with Networking
to get rid of your particular trojans.
And if downloading was your only user account problem, yes, the infection
could be the problem.
All info on how to remove it is, hopefully, below.

http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover!
For the Free version scroll down their page to either download from
Download.com, or Major Geeks.com

Download, install, and update.

Important re: Safe Mode
If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot
the computer, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with your Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes and Spybot S & D
while in Safe Mode.

If unable to install above Programs in Normal Mode:
Sometimes Trojans, Viruses, Malware, etc stop you installing and/or updating
Programs to remove them.
If that happens, reboot into Safe Mode with Networking, and install, update
and scan from there
