Hi,

I use XP Home, and I've never gotten the promised "report" after running
checkdisk. Or is it displayed so quickly that I've missed it??

If you run chkdsk from a Command Prompt then you can
see the report on the screen.

If you run chkdsk through the Run box then the report
will disappear the moment chkdsk finishes its job.

If you run ckdsk at boot time then you can see the report
in the Event Viewer.

If you run it at boot up:

Control Panel>Admin. Tools>Event Viewer>Applications.

In Source, look for Winlogon, double click.

Chkdsk Log is Event ID: 1001

Ok, thanks both of you. Btw, when I was instructed to shut down virus
programmes etc during the scan, do I really have to do that if i run
checkdisk when restarting the computer? (I mean isn't McAfee automatically
shut down before I enter Windows?)

Chkdsk should be the first (and only) thing to load/run.
I do not disable my virus program (or anything else).
