I consider myself to be a middle aged hand at TCP/IP, but this has me
stumped.
My LAN is a Netgear 8 port gigabit switch with 8 boxes plugged into it.
Six boxes run MS Win XP Home SP1. Two run IBM Warp.
The left Warp box is a gateway to the internet. It gets ping replies
from the right Warp box but not from the Win boxes.
The right Warp box gets ping replies from everything on the LAN and gets
out to the internet. This is what I want. It is the only box with a
gigabit NIC. All others are 100.
The Win boxes get ping replies from everything on the LAN except the
left Warp box gateway. This leaves the Win boxes unable to access the
internet. That they can access each other is not much consolation.
I mix Win and Warp boxes on other LANs without a problem.
I disable the XP firewall and several services.
I use the same gateway and DNS IP addresses on all boxes on the LAN.
I added a static entry for the gateway in the Win ARP table; it did not
help.
I don't know whether the problem is in the switch, gateway or Win
settings. Your suggestions will be appreciated.
