Hi all,

I installed trial version of Office 2003 professional. However cannot
upgrade to full version due to lack of cash at the mo. However I cannot get
my previous version of Outlook (Office XP) to run now.....the message
cannot find MAPI32.DLL, is incorrect or wrong version, or some other .dll
message keeps being displayed. How can I get this to run, or failing that
how can i get my previous mailbox (*pst ?) to convert to Outlook Express...

regards

Create a new profile (do not copy it);
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles

To access your current pst-file in the new profile;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

To set it as the default delivery location;
Tools-> E-mail Accounts...-> button Next-> use the dropdownlist below

Hi Trevor
I might be wrong but if you dont have the mail option then I am thinking
that perhaps your windows profile might of gotten corrupted somehow. If you
can create another one by logging onto your computer with an account that has
local admin rights, rename your old windows profile, either in Documents or
settings or Winnt/profiles (cant tell what version of Windows you are
running) then log back onto the computer with your orignal set of details a
fresh version of your profile will be created but you can still copy stuff
from your old profile to the new one. From that point you should see in
Control panel the illusive mail icon...before you do it tho check with
someone else that I am not completely off base...

Hi David,

Thanks for the suggestion. That could be the problem. However, before I go
down that route, I ahve manged to install Outlook from Office 2000, however
i cannot trace the mail that was received under initially OfficeXP Outlook
version and then the Office 2003 Professional Outlook.
Do you know or anyone know, what the mailbox files are called under
OfficeXP or/and 2003 professional, so that I can convert if possible to
either outlook express or outlook 2000....

This is a pain that these files are not so easily accessible or readable by
ongoing versions of Outlook....

Switch to Classic view or use Control Panel>User Accounts>Mail, assuming you
have Windows XP.

Outlooks 97 through 2002 all use the same PST file format and are fully
interchangeable. Outlook 2003 can use an Outlook 97-2002 PST with no
problems. The only compatibility problem is with using Outlook 2003 PSTs
with earlier versions.
