Hi there,

I have a new XP Home machine. I have set it up so Fast
User Switching is off, and it uses the classic login
screen.

When I go to File Explorer -> Tools -> Options, there is
no "Offline Files" tab on the dialog box. I cannot seem
to get this tab to appear so I can activate Offline
files. This is a laptop, so it is pretty important. Any
assistance is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Darcy

The Offline Files feature is only available with Windows XP Professional.

So, why do I then find a description on how to work offline in the
Windows XP Home Edition Product Documentation at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...roductdoc/en/csc_prepare_to_work_offline.asp?

Also, the very same description is available in the local Help and
Support Center on my XP Home laptop.

Explain this to me! Also, explain a way to tweak the system so that I
can get offline files to work on XP Home. Can I copy some files from my
XP Pro installation on the desktop to my XP Home laptop?

The built-in Briefcase is *not* an option as it doesn't work properly.
It looses track of file states and requests me to decide action although
it should be very clear. It for example states that both files are
changed when they are not and also have identical modification times.
