I have performed a clean installed 4 times now and I
continue to not be able to boot into winxp home without
the install cd in the drive. If there is no cd I get the
message "NTLDR is missing" but with the cd in the drive
it boots OK. I tryed the fixes on the MS knowledge base
(Q314057) but this applies to upgrades from 98 etc. so I
can't use the 98 boot floppy with the NTSF file structure.
Am I missing something in the install or set up? There
weren't any options or ability to fix this as far as I
can see.

How to Repair the Boot Sector if XP won't start:
Possible cause is a damaged boot sector or a missing or corrupt ntldr or
ntdetect.com files. Use the COPY command to replace damaged files from the
Win XP CD.
Boot from the Win XP CD and enter the Recovery Console. At the Command
Prompt type the following ( "X" is your CD-Rom drive letter). Allow the
files to overwrite the old files
COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C:
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:
A damaged Boot Sector can be repaired at the command prompt by typing
FIXBOOT and press Enter. Then answer "Y".
