I have 2 XP machines on my network, a desktop(XP Pro) and laptop(XP
Home).
The laptop sees the desktop drives but the desktop can not access the
laptop.
I have tried adding \\laptop\c but I get invalid path.
Both machines can access the internet.
I am using F-Secure on both computers

Hello Terry,

By default the root of a drive is not shared and hence cannot be accessed by another machine on the
network. You might want to go through the following articles which will help you setup a proper home

First: The fix for me was:
From daytripper in comp.os.ms-windows.networking.misc newsgroup:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;177078 which
recommended changing the
hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameter
IRP stack size decimal (in my case from 11 to 17).
It worked at 14, I was informed that 17 should be the minimum, I
subsequently changed it to 20.
Second: Go to safe mode on the laptop, then go to the shared folder(s)
and click on security to configure the sharing. I used access by
'everyone' and it worked. Note that the security folder is not
available unless y'all go to safemode on the XPhome computer.

I bet that this is the reason. The Laptop I am trying to share the
root. The other network drives are not.
Thank you
