No net access after Norton Update

I am using a Dell P4 with one gig of memory, running XP-Pro. My internet
connection is dialup . Norton Internet Security is installed. Yesterday
after running Norton Live Update, I discovered I can no longer access either
web pages or email. In order to use the net I have to Disable Norton I.S. In
checking around Norton's firewall I did note that access to the net is
listed as Automatic I didn't see anything blocked. I have made no custom
changes to N.I.S in any way.
Can anyone help?

If you disable NIS and you can then access, then NIS needs reconfiguring

Run the Home Network Setup Wizard found in Norton Internet Security on
the Networking tab (Wizard button at bottom right). That will add your
nic back to the trusted zone, which may have been wiped out by the
updates.
