No music

I have a dell, the hard crashed so i installed new one
and new operatings system, Home xp, now my music wont
play it did before, any suggestions, do i need to get a
new sound card, how would hard drive affect music

1st off, re-install your sound card drivers.

If still no sound, check if your card recognised by the OS. Right click on
My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager and see if its
recognised. If it is with no yellow triangle next to it, so far so good.

Next double click on the loudspeaker icone in the systray > make sure
nothing is muted, all the sliders are up to the max.

This is really Dell's problem - have you tried their help (sic) desk ?
