Hello all,

I would like to appologize if this is the wrong place to
post this message about Outlook Express for Windows XP
Professional.

I would, please, like some advice about reducing the
amount of "Spam" messages that come into my inbox. I have
young children (11 and 8 years old) that use my e-mail
account to write to friends, however, I do not wish to
expose them to the explicit nature of some of the e-
mails. If there is some kind of program that works with
Outlook Express to filter the e-mails, that would be
wonderful!

I use Outlook Express 6.0 as my e-mail program, and I am
currently running Windows XP Professional SP1a installed.
I anyone could provide some advice, it would be very much
appresiated.

Thank you.

Regards,

Dr. Smith

Something you can do is use message rules (>Tools >Message
Rules etc) to set up your own filters. I have them set up
to scan the subject line and the message body for bad words.
If they are encountered I have them go to another folder for
my review.

Try Spybot search & destroy and or Spyware Blaster also
Norton AntiVirus - I use all 3 - David Shaw - also change
your email address

Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions! Very much
appresiated.

OE has tools called Message Rules. For starters, you can create rules that
will delete messages by keyword. You can start with "viagra" "enlargement"
"adult" etc. Set the rule to delete from server. You can also block
offending domains but you *may* lose some mail in the process. I add a
couple of rules a week by keyword and that keeps the worst of it at bay.
Also, ask your ISP if they do any spam blocking. There are stand alone
programs that will do this too but i am not familiar with them.

Maybe set up a seperate email account for the kids, they can log in under
thier identity and have their own mail box.

I recommend against separate accounts as this will triple your spam and
practically guarantee the kids will see this garbage once the spammers lock
in on the new mailboxes. Rules approach and work with your ISP are probably
best.
