I tried to change my laptop's OS from Win Me to Win XP, but the installation
stopped in the last phase (saving settings), with an error message telling me
to restart. After turning the computer back on, I got nothing. When I insert
the installation cd, it says "Operating system not found". I don't know what
to do.
Unfortunately, I didn't take the error code.

If you can restore Windows ME, do so. Else reinstall Windows XP clean
now and then reinstall your applications. The programs should still be
on the disk, but have to be reinstalled to make them work in the new
Windows installation. Also your personal data files should still be
available.

I'm unable to reinstall xp. even when I turn the computer on with the cd in,
it keeps saying "OS not found".
Win Me must have been overwrited.

In the BIOS, set the system to boot from the cd-rom. Insert the XP cd,
reboot and follow instructions for a clean install.

Thank you for your answers. I've tried to boot from the cd, but nothing
appears on the screen. absolutely nothing.
