Hi all,

After installing sp2 on winxp pro I now no longer have these commands at a
dos prompt:

ping
net
tracert

and maybe more. What has to be done to regain access to these commands?

Thanks,

Zander

Programs or services that use the Alerter service or the Messenger service
do not work as expected after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Enabling the alerter and/or messenger service does
not restore the following dos commands:

ping
net
tracert

Is there any other way to restore those commands?

Thanks,

Zander

ping and tracert do not require the Alerter and Messenger services. The
only part of net that I could see getting disabled would be 'net send'.

Zander,

Do you see a copy of the ping.exe and tracert.exe file in
c:\windows\system32? Is this path included in your PATH environment
variable? It should be included in the 'system' PATH environment
variable. If not, you can still navigate to that directory and run the
command from there.

Good idea, I'll try that tomorrow as I'm not at work now. Obviously I did
have access to these commands prior to upgrading, yet I've not seen this
problem on other machines...?

Thanks Vanguard!!

I edited the path system variable and all is well. I wonder what happened?
(It only referenced an application - no system stuff at all.

Thanks Again,

Zander
