i dont know why, but our computer does not have Microsoft
Word or even Works. The only processing programs we have
are Notepad and Wordpad. School is coming up and I do all
my work in Microsoft word and Works. Is there a way to
download the programs i need before school starts? PLEASE
HELP and respond as soon as you can. Thank you!

Windows XP is an operating system. It does not include Microsoft
Word or Works. Visit your friendly store that sells software and
purchase the software you desire.

Greetings --

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

If you're in college, the first day school starts (if not before - maybe
it'll work if you're already registered) check in the school store for it,
should get an educational discount. If not, many online stores also offer
educational discounts.

I know why. It's because you didn't buy and install either product.

If you expected Windows XP to come with either of these, sorry to tell you that neither Windows XP, nor any other version of Windows, has ever come with these programs, or any other application software.
If your previous computer running an older version of Windows came with these programs, it wasn't that it came with Windows, it was that your vendor chose to bundle them as part of the package he sold you.

If you want these, you need to buy a copy of whichever you want.

Alternatively you can choose to buy another office suite, such as Corel WordPerfect Office, StarOffice, or you can download the free OpenOffice.

Correct. That's all that comes with Windows.

As stated above, these are commercial programs for sale. They are not legally
available for download anywhere.
