I have used a GPO to try to control the use of the log off
button on a XP Pro Workstation. I however have had no luck
getting it removed. I have shut down the PC and waited
overnight and relogged back on it. Still no luck, even
though the user is just a poweruser.

I have even used the XP conversion MMC for that GPO, and
still no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

What GPO are you using specifically and it is a local policy or a domain
policy?

The following KB shows the correct location for the logoff button in the
local GPO -

292504 Policy Settings for the Start Menu in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=292504

Specifically - User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu
and Taskbar \ Disable Logoff on the Start Menu

Make sure that you do not have the Add Logoff on the Start Menu policy
configured.

The KB also gives you the registry location in which you can change it
manually and this should take effect immediately. Remember that if you are
not logged in as that user, then you will need to change it under the
HKEY_Users key.

Also, if you are just looking to remove it without blocking it you can
click Start, click Settings, click Taskbar and Start Menu, click the Start
Menu Options tab and, in the Start Menu Settings box, click Display Logoff.

Best regards,
