well, besides when i shut down, i get a flashing message

Hi Rachel,

Possibly just your monitor telling you that it is no longer receiving a
signal from the video card.

The monitor is not receiving a video signal any more from the video card.
General this is a normal condition as in shut down mode.

Basically it means that your video card has shut down before your monitor.
I get it at start up on mine. Not sure what you can do about it but first
thing I'd try is updating video card drivers.

Greetings --

It means that the monitor is not receiving a signal from the PC's
video card. Perfectly normal if the PC has been turned off.

Greetings --

Since shutting down the PC cannot possibly power off the monitor,
there's nothing video drivers can do to change what is, after all,
perfectly normal behavior.
