no input into Word when typing

I'm having trouble getting input into Word when typing. In other words it is
as if my keyboard doesn't work, although I'm using it to type this message. I
depress a key but nothing shows up on the screen in Word and the cursor
doesn't move. Yet everything seems fine in my other programs, Can anyone
help me^
